Open from 8am to late evening, seven days per week, the shop specialises in great British food and drink. From established brands such as Coleman's mustard or Maldon salt, to regional specialities. Everything from groceries and store cupboard essentials, to gift foods and culinary treats. The shelves are stocked with a range of everyday items such as jams, biscuits, teas, organic milk and freshly squeezed juices, along with special occasion chocolates and artisan goods.
The avid cook can find seasonings and stocks, plus goose fat and flour, to mention just a handful of items. The base ingredients for a great soup or braise, such as onions, celery, root vegetables, garlic and aromatic herbs, are always available.
The range also includes everything you need for an Albion breakfast to be enjoyed at home; a choice of bacon, sausages, black pudding, mushrooms, tomatoes, eggs and baked beans. Additionally, the shop sells kippers and smoked salmon, together with other potted, smoked and fresh fish.
There is a small selection of organic meats, including beef, pork, lamb and chicken. During the shooting season, game is also available, from grouse to pheasant.
Seasonal treats, such as rhubarb (sourced from Yorkshire) at the beginning of the year to asparagus in May, and heritage tomatoes and summer berries, are given pride of place. Seasonal fruit, fresh herbs and vegetables are supplied from Barton Court, Terence Conran's kitchen garden.
British dairy products are some of the best in the world, and the shop stocks the finest cheeses and creamery items.
An extensive selection of foods that have been lovingly prepared in the Albion kitchen also features. These include our own recipe muesli, plus pies, casseroles and salads.
Essentially, the shop range aims to offer a resource for the local community, and a few luxuries for those visiting the area or wanting to offer a culinary gift for a friend. Whether it is the key ingredients for a Sunday lunch with the family or a simple supper for one, there is sure to be a decent choice for everybody.
Finally, if you happen to work or live locally, you will probably have heard about the Albion 'doorstop' sandwiches with traditional fillings: Coronation chicken, rare roast beef, ham and mustard, cheddar and tomato, roast chicken and others.
